Hedge Reduction in Newbury
Bring an overgrown hedge back into proportion. A hedge that has become too tall or wide can dominate a garden, narrow a path or make routine trimming difficult. Our hedge reduction service covers Newbury and surrounding areas, with the intended height and width discussed before the work is agreed.

Reduction is different from a maintenance trim
A trim maintains the existing outline. A reduction changes the size of the hedge and may involve thicker growth.
Tell us what you want to achieve: a lower boundary, more usable space beside a path, or a hedge that is easier to maintain. Photographs help show whether that outcome is realistic.
The species matters
A reduction suitable for one hedge may be unsuitable for another. Many established broadleaf hedges can respond to renovation, while most conifers do not produce new shoots from old, bare wood. Yew is an important exception.
With Leylandii, reducing the width too deeply can expose bare sections that do not fill back in. The remaining foliage needs to be considered alongside the desired size.
Local reduction projects
Explore our laurel reduction in Burghclere and conifer reduction projects in Wantage and Woolton Hill. These photographs show examples of reduction work; they are not a promise that every hedge can be reduced in the same way.
What affects the quotation?
The main considerations include dimensions, species, condition, proposed reduction and access. Tall or wide hedges may need a different access arrangement from a low garden boundary.
Waste clearance is included. Send photographs of both sides where possible and explain how equipment can reach the hedge.
Your questions answered.
Can an overgrown hedge always be restored?+
Not always. A smaller size may leave an unsuitable appearance or insufficient foliage. Where a major reduction is unlikely to give the result you want, discuss alternatives before committing to the work.
When can reduction work take place?+
Check thoroughly for active bird nests before cutting. Work that would damage or destroy an active nest must be postponed. Timing should take account of the hedge species, weather and wildlife.
